Just to summarise, for this coming GG (13th April)

IG 1: Plan a 15 min game that will promote club bonding

IG 2 - 4: 10 mins Commserve sharing. It does not have to be in the form of a powerpoint! Basically the whole point of sharing is to give others a chance to understand what your commserve does (you can even show photos of adorable children/ elderly at your centre and talk about them). Do try to talk about things you guys feel the other interacts would be interested in!

IG 5: Choose a Chinese song and teach the rest of the club. Do try to stay away from the more common ones i.e. the moon represents my heart and various other deng li jun songs. But bear in mind that these songs will be used during our home visits so make sure that they are elderly appropriate!(: i.e. Jay Chou may not be such a great idea

IG 6: Same as IG 5, but instead of a Chinese song you guys will be teaching a song in dialect instead(:
IG 5 & 6 have 20 mins each to teach the song. Do send your song choice to me by 11.59pm on Tuesday, 12th April, with a soft copy of the song, and lyrics attached. I’ll print lyrics for the rest of the club so you guys won’t have to worry about that(:

Lastly, we really hope to hear from you so we (and the 27th exco) can continue working on making Interact a CCA that’s both meaningful and fun. Two years will pass really quickly, so do think hard about what you want out of your two years in Interact – more meaningful service, a more bonded CCA etc.

Interact camp’s coming up on 16 Apr (Sat) and there’ll be a BRAINSTORMING session for you to write down any suggestions ☺. If it’s clearer, you can think in terms of how to improve:
a) Commserve
b) Projects
c) International Understanding
d) Clubserve activities/General Gatherings

Try to be specific but don’t be afraid to suggest new and original ideas! And if you won’t be attending the camp, don’t worry – you can always post a comment on our tagboard or e-mail me.

Project LIFE Yogya

Here's an e-mail from Rotary about a very meaningful project they have started:

When the Merapi eruptions happened last year, Rotary Clubs in Singapore responded with donations of fund and shelterboxes to help the victims. Now the youth will be invited to serve the community in Yogyakarta.

Project LIFE Yogya receives its approval from the NGS Committee of the Rotary Club of Singapore in organising an expedition series (led by committed Rotarians) to serve the community of Mt Merapi eruption disaster from 13-18 June and 20-25 June 2011.

Places will be on a first come first serve basis (D/line 31 Mar 2011). All participants will be required to attend an SDF Emergency Preparedness Course as part of the participation requirements.

Comfort will be spartan but safety and cleanliness will be assured.

The registration cost is $650 pp and includes airfare, taxes, insurance and full board (multishare). Only Indonesia taxes are not included. Support from organisations such as Garuda, Lee Foundation, Governor's Office of Central Java have been sought in subsidising the costs as well as for goodwill. Project is also supported by D3400 Governor Al Purwa.

This is a project of Rotary Club of Singapore under its Rotary Youth Community Rebuilding Programme and serves to fulfill the leadership goals of Interact.

Overview

iWalk is the region’s first annual racewalking and fitness event. The objectives are:

1. to promote racewalking as a healthy sport and competitive event in Singapore
2. to raise a target of $300,000 for designated projects* under PCS.

26th Interact Elections Procedure

Dear Elects,

Please read the below instructions very carefully!

General Guidelines
1. Elects are required to gather at LT1 at least 15minutes earlier.
2. There will be seats at the front of LT1. Candidates are required to sit according to their campaign group.
3. Each group will be given 5 minutes to screen your videos.
4. After the screening of group 1’s video, members from the group will be called upon individually to deliver their 1 minute speech.
5. After delivering the speech, candidates are to remain at the front and choose a question from a list of prepared questions.
6. Once done, the candidate will return to his seat and the next member from the campaign group will be called upon. The procedure continues until the last member of the group.
7. After which, Group 2 will be take the floor with their video.
8. Once every elect has completed their speech and answered the question, the time will be passed to the other interactors.
9. Interactors who want to target any questions to the elects can do so through a sms. The number to sms will be revealed on the actual day of elections.

Groups with Gimmicks
1. Elects who have prepared gimmicks for distribution can do so through two ways:
a. Pass the gimmicks around at the start of the entire elections
b. Get a friend to help to distribute during your turn of campaign.
2. Elects are then required to ensure that the LT is clean after the entire elections that their gimmicks isn’t left lying around.

Groups with any other forms of publicity materials
1. Groups which have prepared any publicity materials are to come earlier to set them up.
2. Groups are then also required to ensure that they have the suitable materials that they may need to set up their publicity materials (Ropes, Scissors, etc)

1 Minute Speech
1. There will not be any restrictions on the things that is written within the script except for the following :
a. Religiously Sensitive Topic
b. Barrages of Vulgarities
c. Things that you don’t want to say to give a bad impression :O

Attendance
1. Attendance must be strictly adhered to. Should any member/elects cannot make it for this occasion, it is of upmost importance that candidates have a valid reason. Otherwise, we will not hesitate to deliver drastic measures.

Voting
1. All of the members will be required to vote wisely and with responsibility.
2. Votes are sacred.

Below is a message from Blessings in a Bag regarding an event this coming Saturday. They’re rather established so do consider signing on!

Have fun reading =)

In a nutshell, Blessings in a Bag is a not-for-profit run entirely by students and young adults that aims to provide for the basic needs of underprivileged children around Asia. Following our 3R Ethos – Recycle, Remodel, Reuse – we collect used clothing, books, bed linen, etc and send them to our beneficiaries. We hope to raise awareness and encourage action with today’s youth, and strive to ensure our activities are environmentally friendly. I am writing to you to seek your help in getting volunteers to participate in the upcoming YEP.Aten.tion! event (taking place on 13th March 2010) organized by the National Youth Council. We are opening this up to 40 volunteers, strictly on a first-come-first served basis. Till date, we still have 20 over slots available for sign ups. If you're interested to be part of this project, we urge you to get back to us soonest as we will be closing this registration on 10th March 2010 (Wednesday) at 5pm.

To give you a better idea, Blessings in a Bag is in collaboration with Singapore Management University (SMU) for this event. The event marks the 10th year Anniversary of the Youth Expedition Project (YEP). The main feature of this event is a 10-hour community service marathon (*Do note that it is not entirely 10 hours of community service- we are looking at 6 hours to be exact*). The key objective is to bring together as many youths as possible to be part of this mass movement that will inspire them to 'walk their talk' and start volunteering locally. The service marathon will be followed by a celebratory event held in the evening at *SCAPE Youth Park. The tentative schedule of the event is as follows:

9am	Launch of Community Service Marathon at SCAPE, Youth Park
9.30am-10am	Teams will start to travel to their respective VWOs.
11am – 5pm	Teams will start work at the various VWOs to complete their community service. *(can include preparation time, lunch* *and also debrief time for the teams).*
5pm – 6pm	Teams travel back to SCAPE, Youth Park
6pm	Gathering of teams back to SCAPE, Youth Park.
7pm	Arrival of last team back to SCAPE, Youth Park. Marks end of 10 hours service-marathon
7pm – 9pm	Closing Ceremony & Celebration of YEP 10^th Anniversary

Hello Interactors (New and Old)!

Here's a late happy CNY greeting =). Hope everyone got lots of ang baos and enjoyed your holidays! The post today is gonna be long but please read through everything.

Firstly, the new Interact namelist is finalised and has been put onto the smb. Check the message by Ms. Serene Yeo if you want to find out who your new CCA mates are =). Just to clarify, the selection is FINAL and the EXCO will not reconsider any more members.

Next, do take note of the details for orientation! Report @ LT1 on Saturday at 8am and bring along a dark T shirt, a towel, water bottle, $20 and your indemnity form. For those who did not receive/lost their forms it can be downloaded here:

Finally, do take note of this Interact Essay competition:

The annual K. S. Mehta Memorial Award organized by the Rotary Club Of Singapore (RCOS) in memory of Rotarian Karan Singh “KS” Mehta (1930-2006) is back again!

KS was an exemplary member of Rotary Club from 1975 to 2006, who selflessly served the Club for over 30 years in many different capacities, with much verve and vitality, exuding joy and good spirits at all times. As the Club’s longest serving Sergeant-at-Arms, KS promoted high ethical standards, regularly attended Club meetings, organized fellowship and fund-raising events, and raised significant donations that helped the Club and the Rotary Foundation initiate humanitarian service projects around the world. Through these gestures, he helped set a new standard in “Service Above Self.”

The competition will be for the best essay or report expounding the virtue, value, meaning or their experience or observation covering the theme "Service Above Self". Essays or reports should be typed double-spaced using Arial size 12 regular font and should not exceed 1200 words (excluding pictorials or attachments if any). The timeline for submission of the Essay is 22^nd Feb.

A Cash prize of S$1000 each will be awarded to the winning Interact Club and Rotaract Club, respectively.

Please do take part as this is a rather prestigious competition and our club could use with more funds for activities/projects =).

Project Humane Transport

Are you interested in photography?

Do you believe that photography has the power to change policies?

If your answer to any of the above questions is 'Yes', then this project is for you!

PROJECT HUMANE TRANSPORT:

In light of the tragic accident that's just happened [See article:4 die after lorry hits trailer, http://migrantworkerssingapore.blogspot.com/] it's time to call for a ban on transporting workers at the backs of lorries or trucks. This is based on the grounds that this practice is unsafe, inhumane and does not accord workers with respect or dignity. We are appealing for workers to be seated (on proper seats) in buses/vans when they are transported and for any additional costs incurred by switching to this safer mode of transport to not be passed on to the workers.

This needs to be a citizens' initiative and we hope that people will show their support for this initiative by taking photos as they encounter foreign workers on the backs of lorries or trucks.
