our club aims to serve the community
and increase international awareness amongst the community at large!

All about Hwa Chong Interact Club

Established in 1985, the Hwa Chong Interact Club has had a long history of service with dedication and passion!

Interact stands for "International Action", which explains our involvement with international issues and the community at large.

We serve 6 community service centres on a weekly basis, and have monthly visits to St Luke's Hospital & Sin Ming Community, where we play games and sing songs with the underprivileged elderly there. On top of that, we have annual projects such as March Camp, OCIP Batam and International Understanding Week.

Furthermore, ad-hoc projects such as collaborations with other schools (Flea-ker of Hope 2009 with RJC) also help to spice up life in Interact Club! Come join us to see how you can play a part in serving the community too :D

The theme for 2009/10 is ‘Heartprints’. This aptly represents the goal of all Hwa Chong interactors: to leave prints of hope and joy on the hearts of those we serve. We aim to truly touch the lives of beneficiaries by connecting with them on the deepest and most sincere level—their hearts. It is our hope that the love and passion from our hearts will leave a mark on theirs, and we can make a difference in their lives.

Rcube is a charity RACE to RAISE funds and RAYS of hope for MINDS (Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore).

Project Humane Transport

Are you interested in photography?

Do you believe that photography has the power to change policies?

If your answer to any of the above questions is 'Yes', then this project is for you!

PROJECT HUMANE TRANSPORT:

In light of the tragic accident that's just happened [See article:4 die after lorry hits trailer, http://migrantworkerssingapore.blogspot.com/] it's time to call for a ban on transporting workers at the backs of lorries or trucks. This is based on the grounds that this practice is unsafe, inhumane and does not accord workers with respect or dignity. We are appealing for workers to be seated (on proper seats) in buses/vans when they are transported and for any additional costs incurred by switching to this safer mode of transport to not be passed on to the workers.

This needs to be a citizens' initiative and we hope that people will show their support for this initiative by taking photos as they encounter foreign workers on the backs of lorries or trucks.

DEAF AWARENESS WEEK

Dear Interactors,

On 27th May's GG we'll be inviting Mr Adrian Yap (co-champion of Amazing Race Asia!) to give us a talk on deaf awareness, as well as to teach us basic sign language.

This is all part of a Deaf Awareness Week which an Interactor, Valencia of I-Group 3 (J2), is helping to organise. As such, she'd like to get some help in manning a booth in the canteen from 2-5pm on 28 & 29th May.

Please do help out a fellow Interactor, and especially so since it's for a good cause! Once again, email Kellie or leave your name on the tagboard if you'd like to sign up for duty (:
